Why is Free Expression so Controversial? Explaining the Law and Politics of a Fundamental Freedom

This presentation will focus on one of the Charter's “fundamental freedoms:” freedom of expression in section 2(b). Dax D’Orazio (PhD, Skelton-Clark Post Doctoral Fellow, Queen’s University) will explain how and why freedom of expression has become such a contentious topic and focus on some important legal cases that have impacted free expression in Canada.

Dax D'Orazio

Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Political Studies at Queen's University.
His research is primarily focused on the philosophy, politics, and policy of free expression. His doctoral dissertation was an analysis of the alleged 'crisis' of free expression on Canadian university campuses.
