Brad Smith is a second-year law student at the University of Alberta Faculty of Law. He started law school after completing a MA in History at the University of Alberta and a BA with honours in Western Society and Culture and a major in History at Concordia University in Montreal. He has a background in editing and currently serves as member of Alberta Law Review’s editorial board. He also worked previously as an Editorial Assistant for Canadian Slavonic Papers and an Input Editor for Alberta Hansard.
Brad has a passionate interest in constitutional law. He is interested in positive and negative conceptions of Charter rights, the interactions and conflicts between Charter rights and federalism, and novel directions in Charter claims and jurisprudence. He is also interested in mental health law and the intersections of law and technology.
Though he spends much of his time reading, researching, and writing, Brad also enjoys exploring the Edmonton River Valley with his dog, Pippin, and playing the guitar.
